Silk Screen, Hot Stamp or Label? Choosing the Right Decoration
Compare silk screen printing, hot stamping and labels for cosmetic packaging by appearance, artwork, durability, setup and production fit.

Decoration should support the packaging architecture and brand system—not compensate for a poorly chosen component. The best route depends on the desired visual effect, surface, artwork and production conditions.
Silk screen printing
Screen printing places ink directly on the component and can create clean, durable-looking graphics when the surface, ink system and curing process are suitable. Curvature, print area, color count and registration affect feasibility.
Hot stamping
Hot stamping transfers a foil effect using heat and pressure. It can create a sharp metallic accent, but artwork size, surface geometry, foil choice and part consistency matter. Large or highly curved areas may need another approach.
Pressure-sensitive labels
Labels can carry detailed graphics, variable information and finishes that may be difficult to print directly. The material, edge visibility, application accuracy, adhesive and exposure conditions then become part of the design.
Choose using the whole system
- Desired visual effect
- Component material and geometry
- Artwork detail and number of colors
- Order quantity and setup
- Filling and handling conditions
- Expected moisture, oil and abrasion exposure
Request decorated samples on the actual component rather than approving a process only from a flat swatch. A method that works on one shape or substrate may perform differently on another.
Prepare production-ready artwork
Use the confirmed decoration area or dieline, vector artwork, clear color references, finish callouts and placement dimensions. Treat screen, foil and label artwork as different production files.
Send your component reference and artwork direction. Lulu Beauty Works can coordinate suitable decoration routes and approval samples with specialist partners.
Frequently Asked
Questions
- Which decoration method looks most premium?
- There is no universal answer. A premium result depends on the brand system, component, execution quality and consistency—not the process name alone.
- Can hot stamping cover a large curved area?
- Highly curved or large areas can create process limitations. Feasibility should be confirmed on the actual component.
- Why approve a decorated sample instead of a flat swatch?
- Surface geometry, material, adhesion and production variation can change how the finish appears and performs on the real component.
